Predictions

This week for reading we had to make predictions about a book that we read. A prediction is a guess about what might happen. To confirm a prediction you need to read and look though the book to see if what you said is correct. Her is my DLO for this week.

Have you ever biked a long distance before? where did you go?

Poetry

Kia ora,

Over the first few weeks of Term 3 we have been reading and writing all different types of poetry. Please enjoy reading my poetry.

Limericks: I learned that a limerick is a humorous five-line poem with a distinctive rhyme scheme and a bouncy rhythm. I also learned that they come from Ireland.

There once was kid who had fun

And he liked to play in the sun

His dad came along

And he was super strong

he had a very big bum

Biographical Poetry:  I learnt that biographical poems are poems about people. I decided to write about Luka Doncic because he is the best basketballer.

Luka

hot,baskatball,rich,the best in his team

basketball,beer,food

basketball,family,girlfrend

snaks,losing his frend boban

when he will get a ring

to get a ring

to get a chip

pain

to play with lebran

to win all the time

What is something new you learned about poetry from my blog?

Science

In Science we have been learning about electricity. We tried to make a torch , a battery and we looked at a solar powered  car.

One of the experiments we did was: Squsihy Circuits

Materials needed :

.playdough

.wires (red/black)

.battery

.conductive clay

My Hypothesis: Before conducting my experiment I thought that it was not going to work.

What I discovered: After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because the circuit made the light go.

Squishy Circuits: Light Up Your Play Doh® Creations! | STEM Activity

Conclusion:

Out of all the experiments we did I really enjoyed doing  the circuit  because it as cool to see it light up and make something work.

Something I enjoyed was working with my mates and trying to make the experiments go.

Have you done a Squishy Circuit before?

Mid Winter Breakfast

Hi bloggers

For maths we have been working on probability. We had to spin a wheel 45 times no more, no less. There were four options to choose from the were. porridge, hot cakes, hot chocolate, and banana. Then I had to put it into the chart and talk about the results. I found this task pretty hard to but I got there in the end.

Let me know what you notice from my graphs.

ART

For art this term we had to create a piece that had some meaning.  We learnt about line, form and colour in our workshops.

I worked with Maz and James to create a masterpiece. We used paint and rollers, and paintbrushes and scraped paint away. We used different textures and a whole lot of different colours to achieve our painting.

Here is a photo of our work:

What do you think my art says?

This weeks math

This term in math we were learning about fractions. I have learnt how to add, subtract, divide and multiply.

I know way more now than at the start of the term. Here is my fraction board:

What is your favourite thing to learn in math?

Amazing Fractions

This week for maths we have been doing franctions. We have been learning how to multiply and divide fractions.

when you divide fractions you need to keep, change and flip. You keep the first fraction, you change the divide to times and then you flip the last fraction.

When you multiply you times the numerators and then you times the denominators.

Do you like fractions? Are you good at multiplying or divinding fractions?

GEM is the best

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt that GEM stands for Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. Empathy is different from sympathy because you truly feel how they are feeling.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project.

Here is an invite I made:

For the showcase evening I worked with Maz and Rodas.

We decided to create a podcast because we are good at talking and sharing stories.

Here is my final creation:

I now understand what Gratitude and Empathy is and how I can use it in my life to be happier.

Throughout the creating process I feel like I did  really well. I could have been better at staying on task and being focused with my friend.

If I was to do this again, next time I would do a podcast again

How do you practise mindfulness?

Mason best of term one

Term one has gone by super fast there are two things that have gone really well for me this term:

We had basketball trials that went well for me this year because I made the team.

We had cross country and I didn’t come last.

And next term I am going to focus more on my work.

And we had the leadership groups and I got into the one that I wanted to get into it is called PALs.

During writing this term I learnt about:

Idioms – it is raining cats and dogs

Synonyms – shop lifter  – ram raid

Simile – i am as busy as a bee

can you give me an exanmple of your favourite idioms you ?
